We are getting super funky for this week’s blues in motion video, because sometimes you have to. I am pleased to introduce you to the amazing musician, Cory Henry and his band the Funk Apostles.
The gorgeous, picturesque town of Telluride, Colorado is perched in a serene mountain range and is a perfect area to go hiking or just enjoy the sites. The area also is a prime location for music festivals and a host of other events year-round.
Each year, Telluride hosts a Bluegrass, Jazz, and Blues festival at various times to appeal to a wide range of audiences. This year, the Telluride Jazz Festival was held from August 3-5 and featured some of the biggest names in fusion and straight-ahead jazz as well as funk and jam.
The hip YouTube music channel Jam in The Van was on location recording a few of the bands that played at the festival and was able to catch an amazing set from Cory Henry and The Funk Apostles. Cory Henry is mostly known for his mind-blowing keyboard an synth work with the sensational jazz collection, Snarky Puppy. Henry’s musicianship and overall musical prowess is unbelievable, and he keeps getting better with ever performance.
Henry has been playing the B3 organ since he was two years old and has been perceived as a prodigy since he was 6 when he played a gig at the Apollo Theater. He has a wide range of skills that allow him to flow across the musical spectrum from jazz and funk to R&B and hip hop. He has recorded and toured with several notable acts including P. Diddy, Bruce Springsteen, The Roots, and Kenny Garrett.
For his latest project, Cory Henry embraces his gospel and soul background, providing lead vocals and his iconic touch on the organ.
I hope you enjoy this week’s funk in motion video!
