KTBA Donates Saxophone to Middle School Band

Shawn Hagood for Keeping the Blues Alive

***UPDATE Thurs Nov. 8, 2018***

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

Being able to see my students faces while they opened the new saxophone was priceless. It arrived just in time to be used at our concert. The students using this instrument went from struggling to learning with ease instantly. Having a proper working instrument is a basic need for a young musician. Unfortunately, we must make due with what we have.

In the weeks since, it is just evident that the instrument has allowed these young musicians to blossom musically. When students taste success, it motivates them to continue working. There is no ending to music education. My goal is to motivate them to keep pushing themselves. This generous donation helped me motivate them.

As we work towards our next concert, I am excited to see the growth that these students will make. On behalf of my students and myself, I want to thank you for your amazing donation. Please know that this saxophone will be put to good use for many years to come. Your donation will impact many students now and in the future.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Napoles

HIALEAH, FL – Thanks to your donations, Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation donated a new saxophone to the middle school band program at Hialeah Middle School!

“My school is in a low socioeconomic area,” Mrs. Napoles describes.

“More than 90% of the students in the school receive free or reduced lunch. These students use music as an outlet and an opportunity to further themselves in their education. Although we face many obstacles, the band program has been and will continue to be successful. This is attributed solely on the drive and dedication of my band students. These are the hardest working children I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The instruments are worn, torn, taped together and battered up….and still we strive to make it work. It is my goal, as their director, to provide each child with an instrument that will allow them to learn with dignity.”

Hialeah Middle School has requested a new saxophone to add to their woodwind area.

“My students are some of the hardest working young people I have ever met. It is my goal, as it should be for every band director, to give each student the opportunity to play on an instrument that works!! Sounds basic right? It actually is incredibly hard to achieve this. I have been working on this goal for years and will continue to work on it as long as I am a band director. Each new year brings its unique musical challenges. This year in particular is our alto saxes. We have 9 alto sax players this year. Unfortunately, all but one are in poor condition. The gift of this alto sax would go to help my newest sax player in the beginning band. It’s a horrible feeling just learning an instrument and not knowing if its the instrument that is making the errors or if it is you. This is a gift that will continue giving to our band program for many years.”

Thanks to the generosity of music lovers and donors like you, KTBA successfully funded Mrs. Napoles’ project!

She expresses her gratitude:

Dear Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation, Inc.,

As I’m sure you know, the most basic necessity for a young musician is an instrument that works. As a band director, the frustrations that my students go through because of less than adequate equipment is a major concern for me. Thanks to your amazing donation, my students will be able to learn on an instrument that will inspire them and motivate them to continue working hard toward making beautiful music. On behalf of myself and all of my amazing young musicians……thank you!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Napoles
