Howlin’ Wolf brought a furious storm of blues straight from Chicago to the coast of Rhode Island for the 1966 Newport Folk Festival. Photographer David Ghar captured the legendary, and quite intimidating, musician on that day in late July nearly fifty years ago, backed by Eddie Shaw on the sax, Andrew McMahon behind the bass, and the one and only Hubert Sumlin bringing the power on electric guitar.
