Former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali visits beloved blues and soul singer Etta James at the Kinshasa Hotel in Kinshasa, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) on September 22, 1974. James joined James Brown, B.B. King and a number of other popular African-American performers, as well as prominent African musicians, for the three-day music festival Zaire 74. The festival was set up as a means of promotion for Ali’s fight against reigning heavyweight champion, George Foreman, a historic boxing match billed as The Rumble in the Jungle. Photo by Horst Faas.
