The History Of Pin Collecting
Pin collecting and trading is one of the fastest growing hobbies worldwide. They can be found at all music and sporting events, restaurants and amusement parks as well as travel and vacation locations.
The history of creating colorful enamel materials onto a metal base (pins), usually copper, and securing their position with soldered wire dates back to Egypt, 1800 BC. The art of Chines fired-enamel dates back as far as the Yuan Dynasty (1271 to 1368), but was popularized during the Xuan De period (1426 to 1435).
Modern pin collecting and trading began in 1896, during the first Modern Olympic Games in Rome. Olympians traded pins as a way to meet and greet athletes from other countries. The 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta were the major events that launched the great interest in pins that exists today. Pin trading and collecting continues in popularity and is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the world.
