We all know about what an established guitarist and musician Joe is, but today we want to inform you of how much star power Joe has backing him up on his current tour. Some of you are aware, but it’s always great to throw in a refresher course occasionally for the new fans about the band that packs a punch at every show.
Mahalia Barnes, Jade MacRae, Juanita Tippins - Whether they are performing with Joe or working on their own musical projects, this trio is off the charts when it comes to vocals. They all have the musical pedigree as well and have been performing most of their lives. Seriously, when you hear these three women harmonize on a song, you get chills!
Keyboard Legend, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, “Who can pound on a piano and make it cry for mercy!” Besides performing with Joe, he has played with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Second Coming, Joe Ely, Lee Roy Parnell, as well as toured with the likes of Christ Layton, Tommy Shannon, Delbert McClinton, Ana Popovic, Kenny Wayne Shephard, Trisha Yearwood and many more to add to this list! He is known to make his Hammond play the most glorious sounds ever heard--true story! He is true music royalty.
Drums extraordinaire! Aside from playing shows with Joe, this kick-ass drummer is most known for being a part of David Letterman’s house band, The World's Most Dangerous Band (The CBS Orchestra). He has also worked with James Brown, Joe Cocker, Miles Davis, Kiss, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Cyndi Lauper, B.B. King, Bob Dylan and Warren Zevon to name a few; like Reese, this list goes on and on!
Bassist and beyond! This guy has some Cajun, country and blues running through his veins and is one of the most sought-after session players in Nashville! Much like the rest of the band, he can throw down some serious nasty funk grooves when necessary! He and Joe have musical duels each night on stage. Just like Reese and Anton, his collaborations are just as long a list, including a lot of country music’s elite: Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Faith Hill, and Dolly Parton! We can also include Elton John, Stevie Nicks and Steve Winwood as well. Yes, he’s that good!
Saxophonist, Singer, Piano Player, Songwriter--He does it all! Known mostly as a dynamic sax player, he has pounded the pavement for many years on tour. Best known for his work with Lucky Peterson, he has worked with a diverse group of artists such as Stevie Wonder, Luther Allison, Little Milton, Bobby Bland, Billy Preston and Jimmy Johnson. To round off that list are Rickie Lee Jones, Kirk Franklin, Glenn Hughes, Lionel Richie and Larry Carlton, among countless others, which shows his versatility as a sideman.
Trumpet player who has played with many legends in his career including being a former member of Supertramp and Tower of Power. Thornburg has played with Wayne Cochran and the C.C. Riders in the 1970s, then toured with the likes of Tom Petty, Ray Charles, Bonnie Raitt, Huey Lewis, and Rod Stewart. For over five years, Thornburg played trumpet in Jay Leno’s house band. Serious star power!
So, there you have it, the band and the man! With all this star power going down each night on stage in different cities and such, what more could you ask for?
