People who think of Neal Young as an entertainer are missing the point! He's really a musician that is true to himself and screw what everyone else thinks of him! He’s a legend, singer, songwriter and guitarist that likes to play crazy distorted notes on his electric guitar garnering him the moniker “Godfather of Grunge.” Other times, he’s just a guy that can take an acoustic guitar, his beautiful tenor voice and a harmonica and makes the crowd sit on their seat's edge screaming and yelling for more. He’s a simple guy that’s most known for his personal lyrics which are timeless and deep and someone who creates soulful music in its purest form.
When he performs live, there is an electricity in the air that keeps people on edge as they wait in anticipation because they’re not sure what to expect from his live shows. It’s a formula that has been working for him since his days in the bands Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young to his current solo projects. Speaking of solo projects, Neil Young has been culling his musical archives and will be releasing a new live album called “Songs For Judy.” Just in time for the holidays! It’s a collection of twenty-two live acoustic tracks recorded during Young’s 1976 solo tour across the US. The song track list includes classics like "Heart of Gold," "After the Gold Rush" and "The Needle and the Damage Done," and "No One Seems to Know." It will be available on CD and digital platforms on November 30th followed by a vinyl edition arriving on December 14th via Young’s own label imprint Shakey Picture Records.
He has received several Grammy’s and Juno awards. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted him twice, as a solo artist in 1995 and in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield. In 2000, Rolling Stone named Young the 34th greatest rock 'n roll artist. With a busy schedule and some health issues, he’s keeping relevant!
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced the “short list” of 2019 nominees, and they are Def Leppard, Devo, Janet Jackson, John Prine, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks, the Cure, Todd Rundgren, Rufus & Chaka Khan and the Zombies. All justifiable contenders that are due this honor for various reasons. One artist we are happy to see be nominated is Stevie Nicks! Not only at age 70, is she still touring, performing and kicking ass, she could also make history by being the first female solo artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice! Back in 1998, she became a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when Fleetwood Mac was inducted. But since then, she has several solo albums under her belt, she still is touring with Fleetwood Mac and making appearances on American Horror Story and various other music projects that’s she’s currently working on. She has partnered with the likes of the late Tom Petty, Don Henley, Davis Crosby to name a few and has worked with top producers including Jimmy Lovine and Dave Stewart. We love her gypsy ways and rock n roll attitude and the fact that she is a great role model for female groups and artists following in her path. She’s paid her dues and deserves this honor.
