Reese Wynans’ extensive and illustrious career has spanned many decades. From playing with the Texas blues guitar master Stevie Ray Vaughan, as the keyboardist in the Double Trouble Band, to his present-day touring gig with blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa, Wynans is a sought-after talent in the blues world. Reese is known as a seasoned and spectacular live musician but has also lent his talent to many recognizable studio recordings in a multitude of genres.
In honor of Reese’s 70th Birthday, Joe Bonamassa is bringing together some of the biggest names in blues to honor Reese and his many years of service to the music industry. Many of those who are participating in this historical recording are artists and musicians who have not only played with Reese but also cite him as a major influence on their musical careers. With all of the musicians gathering at the famed Ocean Way Nashville Recording Studio in Tennessee, Joe Bonamassa puts on a new hat and tries his hand at the other realm of the recording process.
In addition to playing guitar, Joe will be a principle producer on the album which is the first time he has taken on this role in the studio. This is truly a special moment for the blues community as some of the best musicians in the business come together and honor a friend and respected colleague.
“This cd is a collection of songs I’ve played live, songs I’ve recorded, a couple that I would have liked to play on, a tribute to an often overlooked bluesman "Tampa Red", as well as a few odds and ends. A sort of career retrospective of my lifelong love of music. I’m particularly pleased that Joe Bonamassa agreed to produce this, and also that my old friends from the Double Trouble days, Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton agreed to play on a couple of our old tunes.”
