“Springsteen on Broadway” is a concert residency by Bruce Springsteen. The idea behind this residency was something that Springsteen always wanted to try. Springsteen said of the performances “I wanted to do some shows that were as personal and as intimate as possible.” So, to make this dream happen, he chose one of the smallest theaters on Broadway to make this dream into a reality! Crazy? Maybe. The Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City only holds 930 seats not the usual setting for a Springsteen concert when he’s usually selling out stadiums. Ironic thing is, today, it’s harder to get tickets for “Springsteen on Broadway” than other critically acclaimed shows that have been around for years!

While most fans are used to his over the top stadium performances with the fantastic E Street Band, these intimate performances feature only Springsteen, solo, playing guitar and piano, performing his music, from his 2016 autobiography, Born to Run, and performing other spoken reminiscences written for the show. What do the critics think of this show? For once, it kind of has them dumbfounded to a certain degree describing it as profound, provocative, yet a beautiful tribute to all aspects of his life. Originally scheduled to run from October 12 through November 26, the show has been extended three times, the last performance now scheduled for December 15, 2018.

To add more icing to the cake, this past Sunday, Springsteen received a Tony Award to boot! Not too shabby for the Central Jersey working class guy who started out playing gigs at trailer parks and local Elks Clubs which has led to the crazy-like cult following that he currently has as “Bruce Springsteen” aka “The Boss” the torch-bearer of hope for the American People. Just proving that anyone can make their dreams come true and possibly end up on Broadway. Don’t expect Springsteen to retire and stop anytime soon, he still is creating new music, still doing tours with the E Street Band, who has been by his side for 30+ years and finding creative ways to reinvent himself as well as his music. With the current state of affairs with the world, it’s great to know that the Boss of Reinvention is still making beautiful music and entertaining the masses.
