The 29-track set covers just over a decade, from Jones’ early recording days in 1964 through to 1975. Much-loved entertainer Tom Jones has released a new collection of rare and unreleased tracks from the early years of his epic career. Hide & Seek: The Lost Collection was issued yesterday (13) by Decca Records.
The 29-track set covers just over a decade in the Welsh vocalist’s life, from his early recording days in 1964 through to 1975. Many tracks on the album have never previously been available digitally and all of them showcase his unique powers of interpretation. “Pleased to be able to share with you a special collection of rarities and previously unheard tracks,” wrote Jones on social media.” “It’s a thrill to hear these early recordings again after all these years!”
Tracks on Hide & Seek include his versions of ‘Any Day Now,’ a hit for his friend Elvis Presley, written by Burt Bacharach and Bob Hilliard in 1962 and a success for Chuck Jackson that year; the Spencer Davis Group staple ‘Keep On Running’; the blues ballad ‘Pledging My Love’,’ closely associated with Johnny Ace, also recorded by Presley; and Jerry Reed’s tribute to Elvis, ‘Tupelo Mississippi Flash.’
Jones is currently scheduled to co-headline (with his namesake Grace Jones) the first Hideaway Festival in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, which is due to take place 14-16 August. Others on the bill include Beverley Knight, Macy Gray, Eric Bibb and the Blues Band.

Norah Jones announced a new album, Pick Me Up Off The Floor, arriving on May 8th through Blue Note Records. Jones also shared the single “I’m Alive,” a collaboration with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy along with his son drummer Spencer Tweedy. Pick Me Up Off The Floor is Jones’ seventh studio album. Jeff Tweedy also features on the Pick Me Up Off The Floor track “Heaven Above.” Jeff resumes his collaborative role after working on Jones’ previous album, 2019’s Begin Again. “Norah’s been a great friend for a long time, Tweedy told Rolling Stone, “and she’s one of the most effortless musicians I’ve ever played with.”
Living in this country — this world — the last few years, I think there’s an underlying sense of, “Lift me up. Let’s get up out of this mess and try to figure some things out.” If there’s a darkness to this album, it’s not meant to be an impending sense of doom, it feels more like a human longing for connection. Some of the songs that are personal also apply to the larger issues we’re all facing. And some of the songs that are about very specific larger things also feel quite personal. I don’t know if I was just in a zone or if this process turned it on, but I’ve felt more creative in the last year than I ever have.
The album also features contributions from drummers Nate Smith, Dan Rieser, and Josh Adams; bassists Christopher Thomas, John Patitucci, Jesse Murphy, and Josh Lattanzi; keyboardist Pete Remm, violinist Mazz Swift, violist Ayane Kozasa, cellist Paul Wiancko, backing singers Ruby Amanfu and Sam Ashworth, percussionist Mauro Refosco, saxophonist Leon Michels and trumpet player Dave Guy as well as pedal steel from Dan Lead.
