Elle King – Finding her path
Elle King doesn’t hold anything back anymore! She’s been to hell and back and survived it. But nowadays that’s all behind her and she’s finally coming to peace with the ghosts that still haunt her. Needless, to say things are looking up and she’s been touring, writing music, and keeping herself busy ever since.
Her Musical Style!
Good luck trying to fit this square peg into one specific genre because it’s just not gonna happen! In fact, the best way to describe her style of music is a blend of the blues with a gritty edge and a splash of pop, rock, and country with a bit of swagger. I’m sure there are better ways to describe her music but to me, I think it all depends on her mood. While I also think most music fans would find her music quite refreshing nowadays.
Furthermore, She releases record “Love Stuff” in 2015 with the hit single “Ex’s & Oh’s” that went platinum twice and peaked at Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her just the fourth woman in 20 years to top the Alternative charts — following Lorde, Alanis Morissette and Tracy Bonham.
Collaborations & Other Fun Stuff
She’s collaborated with Dierks Bentley, Ronnie Spector, Andy Grammer and The Chicks. As well as touring with Miranda Lambert and Joan Jett. She’s won two CMA Awards for her collaborations with Lambert and Bentley and has received two Grammy nominations. Check out her recent performance with Miranda Lambert Live From the 56th ACM Awards Prior to the show, Lambert joked with ET about having to ‘drink for two’ due to her duet partner’s pregnancy.
The Career in Music
Born in Los Angeles in 1989, she’s the daughter of model London King and Rob Schneider Comedian, actor, Saturday Night Live. She grew up in Ohio with her mom and her inspiration to have a career in music happens when she’s nine years old and sees the punk group “The Donnas.” and makes the decision then that she wants to be a singer and musician. By age 13, she’s playing guitar, as well as a banjo shortly after.
She begins to busk in the streets of New York at 16, before moving to Philadelphia to attend the University of Arts, where she majored in painting and film. Finally in 2012, she signs to RCA Records and kicks off her career in the music business. Charting on various music charts for Country, Americana, Alternative and more. Shake The Spirit – 2018 Album
October 2018 saw the arrival of “Shake the Spirit, King’s second album. It also features the track “Shame” her 4th single that catapults the album up the charts and airwaves! It’s also a number one hit making her the only act in history to have scored number 1 singles on the Adult Pop Songs, Adult Alternative Songs, Alternative songs, and the Country Airplay Charts. Not too shabby – Kudos to her! You can check out a live version of the track below.
As for the Album as a whole, “Shake The Spirit.” This album is not as commercial compared to “Love Stuff.” If you like that old school rock sound, then you like this album but, also, the lyrics are very raw and personal and for some, it may not be their cup of tea. I love it!
Because on this album the music is gritty and raw as well as very carthartic and honest in a good way. She’s an exceptional artist that filled with emotion and soulfulness that takes you somewhere special. The album reminds me of Sash Jordan’s Rats album. Heavy guitars, distortion, emotional ups and downs and intense in a very good way.
